Good Friday is a public holiday in the Philippines, commemorated with solemn street processions, the Way of the Cross, the commemoration of Jesus’ Seven Last Words (”Siete Palabras”) and a traditional Passion play called the Senákulo. In Guinobatan, Albay, the grand procession called “Prusisyon ng mga Santo” is an anticipated attraction during Good Friday. The procession of richly adorned giant floats or carrozas depicting a scene in the life of Jesus are paraded all over town after sunset. The usual highlight of Good Friday procession is the Santo Entierro, a wooden sculpture of the dead Christ lying supine.
